SUMMARY:Lovely Family-Friendly Bike Ride to Clayton Vale via Phillips Park and Manchester Velodrome
DESCRIPTION:This is one of longer bike rides organised by Sustainable Living in the Heaton this season\, and takes us to places that our rides have never visited before! We hope that many of you will join us for this ride of about 16 miles\, much of it off road or on quiet urban streets. \nOur endpoint is Clayton Vale\, a Local Nature Reserve and a great place to enjoy woodland and walks along the river Medlock\, cycling\, picnicking or pond dipping. We’ll get there by going east along the Fallowfield Loop\, via Phillips Park\,  opened in 1846 as one of the world’s first municipal parks\, and also calling into the Manchester Velodrome\, known as “the home of British cycling”. \nBring a picnic to eat at Clayton Vale\, plenty of water in case it’s hot\, and clothes to fit the weather. \n You can book your place here.

SUMMARY:Fun-Filled Family Bike Ride to Heaton Mersey Common!
DESCRIPTION:Organised by Sustainable Living in the Heatons\, this is the bike ride to come on with the kids! We have all been watching how the new cycling and walking paths on the common have taken shape and we are hoping the paths will all be finished soon. This will be the chance for us all to explore them safely and to check out how they help us all to enjoy the common. Even new bike-riders will have fun on this ride which we will lead around the common\, and there will always be the opportunity for families to peel off for a rest at any time. We’ll stop for a drink and a snack in the big central grassed area\, and there will even be a game of rounders for anyone who is interested and want to burn off some extra energy! \nThis bike ride is the shortest of the season\, at just 3 miles maximum. SUMMARY:Free Family-Friendly bike ride to Manchester Museum
DESCRIPTION:Join Sustainable Living in the Heatons on this cycle ride which will use mostly off-road\, quiet side roads\, and cycleways to get to the University of Manchester and the Manchester Museum\, via the Fallowfield Loop and Platt Fields in Fallowfield. This is an excellent way to find a quiet route to get into Manchester\, although we will not go to the city centre. You can book your place here. \nWe will spend time in the museum and have lunch before returning to Heaton Moor. There’s lots of different things to see and do in the museum – well worth a visit. Check it out and plan your time here. \nThe ride is about 14 miles. Families and cyclists of all levels are welcome come.

Stopping off at the gorgeous Station South for drinks and cake. \nGet ready to pedal your way to a day of fun\, fitness\, and family bonding! We invite you and your loved ones to join us on a Family-Friendly Bike Ride to Station South Levensulme via the picturesque Fallowfield Loopline and if weather allows stopping off to see the Secret Lake and Levenshulme Waterfall. This event is designed for families\, so bring the whole crew from littlest backseat riders to great grandparents. Last year we organised this same ride as our first bike trip of the season\, and it was a great success. \nThe Route: is perfect for riders of all skill levels\, and is mostly on quiet cycle paths. \nThe Views: we will be experiencing the green beauty of Nelstrop Lane and onto the Fallowfield Loopline loop line. After coffee and a cake at Station South we will continue west along the Floop turning off to enjoy Cringle Park on our way home. Yes we will definitely have time for playing in the park. \nBring: Please bring a roadworthy bike\, a drink and money for the coffee and cake. \nWeather: Please check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. SUMMARY:Bike Ride to Lyme Park
DESCRIPTION:Visit one of the region’s most popular beauty spots in the Peak District National Park and leave the car at home! \nLyme Park is just 11 miles away by bike\, and you don’t have to use the A6 to get there. Our route takes you through residential streets out to Hazel Grove\, then quiet country lanes through woods and alongside rivers. We take you briefly onto the Middlewood Way\, where there are options for a coffee stop\, before entering Lyme Park from the lesser known South West entrance. A short climb through the woods on a gravel track brings you to the House at Lyme and the Timber Yard Café where you can picnic or buy lunch. \nWe will stay at Lyme Park for around an hour\, so you can wander around\, use the adventure play area or walk up to ‘The Cage’ – you may even see some of the famous Lyme Park deer! \nOn the return journey we pass Disley station\, where there are hourly (bike friendly) trains back to Heaton Chapel (22 minutes journey time). Or you can stay with us returning via High Lane\, Torkington Lane\, Offerton and Stockport Town Centre – it’s downhill all the way (well mostly….). \nThis event is designed for families\, but littlies may find the distance a bit far and the ride up to Lyme is not suitable for trailers. \nThe Route: is perfect for riders of all skill levels\, and is mostly on quiet cycle roads and cycle paths. There is a fair amount of crossing of main roads and there are a few short but steep sections where you may find it easier to get off and push. The gravel track up to Lyme is steep and rough\, we recommend at least 28mm tyres and good range of gears! \nThe Scenery: The scenery around Lyme Park is breathtaking – it’s part of the National Park for good reason and you will be amazed at how far away the city seems. On most days\, you can see both the Manchester skyline and Kinder Scout\, the highest point of the Peaks. \nBring: Please bring a roadworthy bike\, a drink and either a picnic lunch or money for lunch at Lyme Park. Also bring a bike lock in case you want to leave your bike whilst you wander around the park \nWeather: Please check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. As this is a long day out\, we may cancel if the weather is too bad. \nBook for free on eventbrite

SUMMARY:Evening bat walk in Heaton Mersey
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a dusk walk near the river in Heaton Mersey to observe bats using detection monitors. \nThis evening bat walk will give you the chance to hear and observe the bats using our special bat monitoring equipment. The insects will be out and the bats will be hunting! \nThe event will last just over an hour\, and will take you from a meeting place in Heaton Mersey down to the river. \nThe bat walks are led by volunteers from Sustainable Living in the Heatons\, trained by ecologist Jeff Clarke\, and with funding from the Stockport Hydro Environmental Challenge Fund to purchase the bat monitors. \nCheck out our bats page for information about previous bat walks. \nBook for free on eventbrite
