SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting/Summer Social
DESCRIPTION:This month we are taking our monthly meeting outside for a summer social! \nWe are meeting on Wednesday 9th August at 6.30 onwards at Marbury Road Edible Garden in Heaton Chapel. It will be an informal social event\, a chance to catch up but also a great chance to check out this newly developed area and to hear about all great work being done by the community group there. Kell spoke about it at a recent monthly SLH meeting and also at our the last Low carbon Heatons event. \nBring drinks\, snacks or food to share. \nThe nearest postcode is SK4 5NH. The site is just off Marbury Road on Nelstrop Road North\, the walking and cycling path to the Fallowfield Loop.  It’s on the right\, just after the last house\, opposite what was Shore Folds Urban Farm\, now a construction site. Go through the gate into the field. \nThere’s an events shelter and a log seating circle but you might like to bring your own chair.   Sensible footwear is advised although there are laid paths. The composting toilet will be available too. Some things will be available to buy by card or cash: jams\, syrups\, honey\, dried teas and fresh produce. \nIf the weather is poor we will go to the George and Dragon Pub in Heaton Chapel. \nIf you need more details send an email to info@slheatons.org or on the day phone 07854 898 418.

SUMMARY:SLH Bat Walk for Heatons SummerFest
DESCRIPTION:Sustainable Living in the Heatons have been organising evening bat walls in the spring and autumn for the past two years\, but this is the first late evening summer bat walk! Part of the Heatons Big Summer weekend\, it will give you the chance to hear and observe the bats using our special bat monitoring equipment. The insects will be out and the bats will be hunting. \nThe event will last just over an hour\, and will take you from a meeting place in Heaton Mersey down to the river. Please wear appropriate shoes for uneven terrain. Insect repellent can be useful at this time of year\, and/or long sleeves and trousers. The walk will be led by volunteers from Sustainable Living in the Heatons. We ask for a\nvoluntary donation of £6 for adults over 18\, payable in cash on the night. Please book a place via eventbrite for all adults and children attending. \nThese bat walks are always popular and oversubscribed. If you or your party need to cancel your booking\, please do so as soon as possible via eventbrite. If you are unable to cancel it through eventbrite please contact info@slheatons.org. If the event is fully booked please contact info@slheatons.org to go on the waiting list. \nHaving booked for the bat walk\, you will receive more detailed information and meeting details by email a few days before the event. If you need more information please contact us at info@slheatons.org. \nThe bat walks are led by volunteers from Sustainable Living in the Heatons\, trained by ecologist Jeff Clarke\, and with funding from the Stockport Hydro Environmental Challenge Fund to purchase the bat monitors. \nClick here for information about previous bat walks and other events organised by Sustainable Living in the Heatons.

SUMMARY:Plant\, Save and Protect
DESCRIPTION:Sustainable Living in the Heatons (SLH) invite you to attend the third in our series of Low Carbon Heatons events. \nThis event will consider the interaction between individuals and their physical environment – the connection between plants\, wild life and the world around us. \nOur speakers include experts from the Cheshire Wild Life Trust \, Manchester Urban Diggers and Hive5 . We will also present a case study on a local success story. You will have the opportunity to learn more about:\n– the loss of biodiversity and the affect on climate change\,\n– how eco systems and the biodiversity they contain are natural carbon sinks \n– how conserved or restored habitats can reduce the negative effects of climate change and contribute towards reducing the carbon footprint of the local area \n– why biodiversity is so important for the carbon cycle. \nThe event is free however booking is essential.  To book your place go here.
