SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The SLH monthly meetings are on the first Saturday of the month from 10.30am to 12.00 noon.  Our meetings are held at the Patio Room\, Heaton Moor United Church\, Stanley Rd SK4 4HL. The room has direct access from the car park and has a shared kitchen and toilets very close to the room. Hot drinks will be provided for everyone. \nEveryone is welcome to our meeting. Contact info@slheatons.org if you have questions. We use the time to discuss and plan our activities\, and have occasional guest speakers.  Everyone is welcome. Do come and meet us!

SUMMARY:Bike Ride: Sunday June 25th Mayfield Park\, Manchester.
DESCRIPTION:This will be a circular route to the newly created Mayfield Park near Piccadilly station in Manchester. Outwards\, we’ll follow the route of a disused railway\, a disused canal and an active canal to the heart of Manchester\, returning along the Oxford Rd cycleway. We are allowing 90 minutes for lunch and play (and note – there is no age limit on the park activities and yes\, some adults will be going down the slide over the river). Bring a picnic and some money for drinks\, snacks and ice cream from the coffee shop.\nMeet at 10am at the Moor Top pub car park\, returning around 4pm.\nDistance around 15 miles. Large sections off-road and on cycleways\, but using some quieter roads in the city.

DESCRIPTION:Sustainable Living in the Heatons (SLH) invite you to attend the third in our series of Low Carbon Heatons events. \nThis event will consider the interaction between individuals and their physical environment – the connection between plants\, wild life and the world around us. \nOur speakers include experts from the Cheshire Wild Life Trust \, Manchester Urban Diggers and Hive5 . We will also present a case study on a local success story. You will have the opportunity to learn more about:\n– the loss of biodiversity and the affect on climate change\,\n– how eco systems and the biodiversity they contain are natural carbon sinks \n– how conserved or restored habitats can reduce the negative effects of climate change and contribute towards reducing the carbon footprint of the local area \n– why biodiversity is so important for the carbon cycle. \nThe event is free however booking is essential.  To book your place go here.

DESCRIPTION:Join members of the SLH team who help to lead this great event from Manchester Friends of the Earth. \nBike Friday is exactly what it says on the tin: A bike ride on the last Friday of every month. We set off from Heaton Chapel train station at 7.45am and lead on a route heading into Manchester City Centre. \nThe ride is on quiet routes and are suitable for everyone — from the regular commuter\, to the first timer wanting to try a new way of getting into work.
