SUMMARY:Bike Ride to Lyme Park
DESCRIPTION:Visit one of the region’s most popular beauty spots in the Peak District National Park and leave the car at home! \nLyme Park is just 11 miles away by bike\, and you don’t have to use the A6 to get there. Our route takes you through residential streets out to Hazel Grove\, then quiet country lanes through woods and alongside rivers. We take you briefly onto the Middlewood Way\, where there are options for a coffee stop\, before entering Lyme Park from the lesser known South West entrance. A short climb through the woods on a gravel track brings you to the House at Lyme and the Timber Yard Café where you can picnic or buy lunch. \nWe will stay at Lyme Park for around an hour\, so you can wander around\, use the adventure play area or walk up to ‘The Cage’ – you may even see some of the famous Lyme Park deer! \nOn the return journey we pass Disley station\, where there are hourly (bike friendly) trains back to Heaton Chapel (22 minutes journey time). Or you can stay with us returning via High Lane\, Torkington Lane\, Offerton and Stockport Town Centre – it’s downhill all the way (well mostly….). \nThis event is designed for families\, but littlies may find the distance a bit far and the ride up to Lyme is not suitable for trailers. \nThe Route: is perfect for riders of all skill levels\, and is mostly on quiet cycle roads and cycle paths. There is a fair amount of crossing of main roads and there are a few short but steep sections where you may find it easier to get off and push. The gravel track up to Lyme is steep and rough\, we recommend at least 28mm tyres and good range of gears! \nThe Scenery: The scenery around Lyme Park is breathtaking – it’s part of the National Park for good reason and you will be amazed at how far away the city seems. On most days\, you can see both the Manchester skyline and Kinder Scout\, the highest point of the Peaks. \nBring: Please bring a roadworthy bike\, a drink and either a picnic lunch or money for lunch at Lyme Park. Also bring a bike lock in case you want to leave your bike whilst you wander around the park \nWeather: Please check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. As this is a long day out\, we may cancel if the weather is too bad. \nBook for free on eventbrite

SUMMARY:Bike Ride to Chadkirk Chapel
DESCRIPTION:A pedal powered adventure through Stockport’s green spaces to Chadkirk Chapel \nThis is a mostly off-road route\, passing along national cycle trails and finishing at Chadkirk Church near Marple. On the day of our ride\, the annual Dressing of the Well takes place. We return by the same route. \nSee a bit of Stockport history! On this ride you will pass two medieval Halls and arrive at the 16th Century Chadkirk Chapel to witness a well dressing. \nOur route drops down to the Trans Pennine Trail by the River Mersey\, before going through Stockport Town Centre to pick up the Trail once more by the River Tame. We then head up through Reddish Vale Park before dropping down to Pear Mill where we pick up the NCN55 and the start of the Etherow-Goyt Valley Way. We first pass by Bredbury Hall (this site is mentioned in the Domesday Book!)\, and then Goyt Hall\, where you may be able to pick up a coffee at the hut (if it’s open!). The route then continues along gravel trails before crossing the main road into Chadkirk. \nThe Chapel is usually only open to the public on the last Sunday of the month\, but on the day of our ride\, the annual Dressing of the Well takes place. The event starts at 12 noon and finishes at 5pm\, with the formal well dressing taking place at 1pm. We aim to be there for about 12:30 and will leave no later than 2pm. There are hot drinks and cakes on sale\, although you may want to bring your own lunch. \nThe Stockport Silver Band\, Stockport Ukulele Players and Stockport Morris Men will be performing\, and there will be stalls selling locally grown plants\, second-hand books\, cards\, paintings\, crafts\, Chadkirk Comfrey Oil and Chadkirk Elderflower Cordial. \nThis event is designed for families. \nThe Route: is perfect for riders of all skill levels and is mostly on gravel cycle paths. There are a few main roads to cross\, and there is one short steep section where you may find it easier to get off and push. The gravel tracks can be rough in parts and we recommend at least 28mm tyres. Electric bikes and trailers are welcome. \nThe Scenery: The countryside on the Etherow-Goyt Valley way is very pretty\, and you will feel a million miles from the city. We run along three of Stockport’s rivers – the Mersey\, the Tame and the Goyt. \nBring: Please bring a roadworthy bike\, a drink and a picnic lunch\, plus money for refreshments (NB cash only at Chadkirk Chapel). Also bring a bike lock in case you want to wander around whilst at Chadkirk. \nWeather: Please check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. We ride rain or shine! \nBook for free on eventbrite
